Preserving the Harvest: Salsa*

Would you like to enjoy the fresh taste of homemade tomato salsa all year long?

This hands-on food preservation workshop will teach you the basic steps for hot water bath canning and freezing. Participants will learn recommended methods for preserving foods, the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to insure safety, and how to check for properly sealed jars. Participants will also receive a “Preserving the Harvest” food preservation information packet. There is a $20 Materials fee per person, separate from the registration fee, due directly to the instructor at the start of class.

Please bring a potholder with you to the workshop. You will be able to take home a jar of what we prepare that evening!

Have fun, learn something new, and grow with your family from this experience together! That is what Family Karate at the Martial Arts Institute is all about. You will learn traditional Goju Ryu Karate in an environment that allows parents and kids to connect on new and diverse levels. Families will be introduced to Kihon (basics) and Kumite (partner training). But most importantly families will be engaging with each other and striving to improve their family dynamicsc using Okinawan philosophies. Young people ages 8 to 18 are encouraged to register with their parents/guardians. Limit 20 students.

Maine Driving Dynamics

This five-hour program covers crash prevention for drivers of all ages and is cosponsored by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. Those completing the course will receive a three-point reduction on their driver’s license. Participants must attend both classes to earn the certificate of completion and point reduction.

Hula hooping is a timeless fun way of toning and great for exercising every part of the body--while you feel laughter and joy. No experience is necessary, and if you couldn’t do it as a child-- you will be able to now!

We will work on the waistline, rhythm, arm exercise, PLUS, did you realize that 10 minutes of hooping burns the same number of calories as 10 minutes of jogging and is WAY MORE FUN?

Wear comfortable clothing. Bring your smiles and be ready for some fun! Weighted hoops are available in the classroom.

Class will be held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Storm makeup will be Dec. 9.

Gentle Yoga via Zoom*

This online class will be a gentle yoga practice, performed at a slower pace, with forms that are adaptable to all body shapes and abilities. A strong emphasis will be placed on stretching, with some seated forms and low impact movements. We will practice some meditation, breath work, and relaxation techniques. A great class for beginners with all levels of yoga experience welcome.

Live via Zoom, recording will be provided for up to a week if you need to miss.

There will be no class on Monday, Nov. 11 due to the holiday.

Parents of all ages are encouraged to participate in this Health and Wellness class!

In this class, participants will learn about how tobacco, substance use, and diet impact pregnant women, children, teens, and adults. Come join us in interactive presentations designed to help students engage in safe, open dialogue about healthier practices, specifically reducing tobacco, drug, and alcohol use and promoting a healthy diet and exercise. There will be no class on October 14, Nov. 4, or Nov. 11.
