Meet Our Staff
Hannah Bard, Lead Learner (Director): BS Ed, Thomas College Master in Adult and Higher Education, USM. Hannah became involved through the program in 2010 as one of three evening secretaries at MMRACE. Although she originally sought to become an upper-elementary teacher, Hannah shifted gears and earned her Master’s in Adult & Higher Education from USM in 2016. Since 2010 Hannah has worn many hats at MMRACE including evening secretary, College and Career Advisor, GED/HiSET test administrator, and most recently, Director. Hannah is native to Waterville, but currently lives in Benton with her husband, Mike, their daughter, Josephine and their two dogs and two cats. You can find her relishing in the winter fun on the Nordic ski trails and chasing the cross country teams at the Jr High and High School in the fall. She loves all things nerdy and loves to share her passion to learn with the staff and learners at MMRACE.
Joyce Anderson, Secretary for the Messalonskee site: Joyce graduated from Lisbon High School, attended the University of Maine PI and received her Associates, Business Administration/Executive Secretarial from KVCC. When Joyce’s children were in high school she took classes from the Adult Ed in Fairfield. One of the Adult Ed teachers in Waterville also taught at KVCC. She encouraged Joyce to take one of her classes at KVCC. She did and enjoyed it so much sheapplied for admission! A friend told her about an opening for a Secretary at Messalonskee Adult Ed. She was nervous when going to the interview, but she got the position and has been with the Adult Ed program now for 24 years! In Joyce’s spare time she enjoys gardening, quilting, family outings and spoiling her grandsons!
Sherrie Brann, Community Enrichment Coordinator, Waterville

Linda Davis, College and Career Counselor / Academic Advisor: Masters in Secondary Education UMO, BS Business Education and Computer Education UMM, State of Maine Certification in Business Education and Computer Education. Seven years with MMRACE. Linda retired from full-time teaching in 2010 with over 35 years of teaching. Linda’s role at MMRACE serves as the Career Pathway Advisor, Student In-Take Coordinator and is the instructor for the following courses: Microsoft Office Suite, Bank Teller Training, Career preparation and Financial Literacy. Linda has served on numerous national organizations and committees throughout her educational career. Linda enjoys spending time with family, friends and her two cats (Cleo and Ivory) in her spare time.
Jessica Hamilton-Jones, Instructor:
Nancy Hebert, HiSET Tutor: Retired from teaching after thirty years in 2017. She returned to the classroom in 2018 as a social studies teacher teaching a full schedule until 2020 and has stayed with WSHS as a sub and now as a HiSET tutor and Life Skills instructor. Nancy graduated from Waterville Adult Ed in 1976 and is happy to be involved with the HiSET program. “If it wouldn’t have been for adult ed, I never would have had the opportunity to be a teacher, my childhood dream job. I find being a tutor in the program very rewarding because I know once the students earn their diplomas, their lives will always change for the better. It is an honor to be a part of their journey!”
Karen Morin, Career & Advancement Specialist, Kennebec County:
Paula Raymond, Instructor: M.Ed. Special Ed UMO, BS Thomas College, certifications in ELA and MA. 15 years MMRACE instructor – foundational courses in Reading – Writing conventions – Writing Styles – College Prep Reading Skills, Development College Prep Writing Skills Development Math fundamentals up to and including Pre-Algebra – Intro to Geometry – Graphs – and other introductory MA concepts, Essential Computers, Study Skills. Paula personally enjoys staying involved in her community and city to stay informed with local government and current community politics. She currently serves on the Housing and ARPA Committees.
Melissa Rice, Evening Secretary: Associates Liberal Studies, Thomas College, Melissa is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Maine Augusta. Fresh out of high school Melissa attended the University of Maine Farmington. Years later she went back to school to finish her education. Melissa took advantage of the Advantage U program through KVCC where upon receiving her Associate’s Degree in Liberal Studies, she was automatically transferred to the University of Maine school of her choice. She chose the University of Maine Augusta campus due to its close proximity to home, and enrolled into the Bachelor of Arts in English program to pursue and continue to work on her passion for literature and writing. Before working for MMRACE as the Evening Secretary, she worked at Waterville Senior High School and Thomas College.
Josephine Schiebel, ESL Instructor: BS Education and Psychology (double major), Concordia University, Master’s in Ed. Leadership, Concordia University, Currently enrolled in the online TESOL Master’s program at the University of Southern Maine. Josephine has 21 years of teaching experience in the classroom. She enjoys working with adult ESL students and the cultural exchange that takes place in the ESL classroom is one of her favorite features when working with language learners.
Kathy Stevens, Day Secretary: Associates, Business Administration, Thomas College. Kathy has been working for MMRACE since February 2021. Kathy has a financial aid background prior to coming to work at MMRACE. She enjoys working with students from the time they come in for their initial intake session to the time they graduate from their program at MMRACE. Kathy and her husband David own/operate a construction business and she enjoys operating the ‘big’ equipment when time allows. She also enjoys spending time with family, the outdoors, traveling to warm, sunny beaches, her two dogs and spending quality time in her gardens during the summer months.
Arlene Toulouse, Instructor: BS Ed from Lesley University, Masters in Technology from Thomas College. Arlene taught at Waterville Junior High School for 30 years before retiring. After a few years of retirement she began teaching at MMRACE as a HiSET tutor and teaching Reading, English and Science. Arlene has been with MMRACE for seven years. Arlene enjoys spending time with her husband, her grown son and daughter who live in MA, and her three grandchildren. She enjoys walking her dog Venus; spending also loves outdoors and anything related to Science! “I love teaching at MMRACE because the students are great!”
Earl Watts, Instructor: Earl is a veteran of the US Army, having a total of 31 years in service, including a deployment to Afghanistan in 2009. He has been an adjunct instructor at Thomas College for ten years, a high school social studies teacher at Waterville Alternative High School (WAHS) for five years, and a teacher with the Mid-Maine Regional Adult
Community Education in Waterville for four years. This year he has also assumed the administrative duties for WAHS. Earl has a Master of Arts in American History and a Master of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in American Government. He is a 2021 James Madison Fellow and has been selected to attend the 2023 Midway Institute for Teachers. Earl is also a member of the School Board for the Winslow Public Schools system. As a military veteran, a parent, a college instructor, a high school teacher & administrator and a municipal government member, Earl brings a well-rounded point of view to the table and is uniquely positioned to provide meaningful history and civics education to his students.
