Rug Hooking for Beginners*

Would you like to learn the art of North American rug hooking in an easy going, relaxed environment that encourages modern interpretations? You will make one of your choice from the instructor’s 6" x 6" patterns. The Adult Ed secretary will be in touch by email prior to class to note your pattern preference which are available on our website. The titles of the artwork are Maine Mountains, Hippie Bus, Peace on Earth, and Shaker Heart. The session will include an introduction to hooking including some history of the craft, an overview of styles, how to choose hooking wools and other materials, tools, a few rules, tips and tricks, and getting started on the projects. Finishing instructions will also be demonstrated! Materials Fee $85 cash or check at the beginning of class and includes: hook, 12" hoop, 6" x 6" pattern hand drawn on high quality rug warp, all wool needed to complete the pattern, printed instructions, ongoing access to the instructor for questions after class. Please bring a bag lunch, as we will break about noon for a short indoor picnic. Storm make up will March 29; please reserve this date on your calendar when you register--just in case we have a spring snowstorm. Limit 10 students.

Maine Driving Dynamics

This five-hour program covers crash prevention for drivers of all ages and is cosponsored by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. Those completing the course will receive a three-point reduction on their driver’s license. It is a 5 hour class split into two sections of 2.5 hours on Tuesday + Thursday. Participants must attend both classes to earn the certificate of completion and point reduction.

Worm Composting for Beginners — Support Global Worming!

This class teaches you how to use worm composting to recycle your kitchen scraps into worm castings and sets you up with a worm bin with worms to take home. It also teaches you: The benefits of worm castings as soil amendment and how to use them; What to consider before you start; How to maintain a worm bin so the worms thrive; How to avoid (and correct if necessary) the common problems Each household (limit of 5 households but not limit on attendees from the household) goes home with their own worm bin with worms to maintain for 3 to 4 months. The class is reconvened for the second session in 3 to 4 months (5/22/25). The worm bin is harvested and set up for another 3 to 4 month "harvest cycle".
