News: MMRACE Involvement in The Together Project

In a bustling corner of Waterville, Maine, a vibrant project called “Together” has been quietly but powerfully shaping perceptions of community. Spearheaded by the talented artist Peter Bruun, “Together” is not merely an art initiative; it’s a heartfelt endeavor to celebrate, share, and propel positive community experiences throughout the Waterville area.

Imagine this: a group of students, each armed with pastels, capturing their visions of Waterville’s communal essence on canvas. Led by Bruun, they embarked on a journey to translate their perceptions into art, offering unique perspectives on what community truly means to them.

The “Together” project, sponsored by Waterville Creates and forged in collaboration with various organizations and individuals, culminated in three art exhibitions and four events throughout the month of April. These showcases were more than just displays of creativity; they were windows into the soul of Waterville, shedding light on the myriad facets of community life.

But “Together” was more than just an art exhibition; it was a labor of love, born from countless conversations, workshops, and moments of shared inspiration. Bruun’s dedication to immersing himself in the fabric of Waterville ensured that the project resonated deeply with its residents, forging bonds and fortifying relationships along the way.

One cannot overlook the significance of Hannah Bard’s poignant words, spoken before each student’s artwork was unveiled. Her voice served as a guiding light, illuminating the stories behind the art and reminding us of the interconnectedness that defines true community.

February 29th was when Peter Bruun graced our program with his presence, sparking creativity and igniting passions among students. Finally, on April 27th, their artwork took center stage, captivating audiences and reaffirming the project’s mission: to showcase the beauty of community and remind us all that we are, indeed, in it together.

As we reflect on the “Together” project and its profound impact, let us not forget its core message: in Waterville, and in every community, we all belong. Through art, storytelling, and shared experiences, we can continue to nurture and strengthen the bonds that unite us, creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
